Sad News About Matt Winer
By Jane E. Allen
I’m so very sorry to have to share the news that Matt Winer passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2005, after living with lung cancer for a year and a half.
His dear friend and Berkeley College roommate Bill Pelto and I have arranged an informal remembrance of Matt for friends and classmates who will be attending our 25th Reunion this weekend. I know it will be a bittersweet time for us all. As recently as April, Matt had hoped to make it to our reunion.
We will be gathering at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, in the courtyard of Wright Hall, where so many of us first got to know Matt our freshman year.
Please come and share your thoughts, memories, and stories about Matt, along with any pictures you may have, as we celebrate his life.
Matt, who practiced psychiatry in Hanover, N.H., is survived by his wife Margaret Sheehan and daughter Molly, 10, both of Hanover; his brothers Jonathan '76, of Bethesda, Md., and Josh '78 of Waltham, Mass.; and his father Bertram '43 and mother Mimi, of Wayland, Mass. Arrangements have not yet been made for the funeral and memorial service.

Bill Pelto has also posted a wonderful tribute to his close friend and our lost classmate Matt, which may be read in the In Memoriam section.

Matt's father, Bert Winer '43, was a roommate in Berkeley with my father, Harvey Shycon '43. He was also our family doctor for decades. My parents were sad to hear the news, and will speak to Bert and Mimi.
