Ladies and Gentleman of Timothy Dwight

Fritz Beshar’s daughter said that we were cool. From a teenager, there is no higher accolade. And she was right – TD was cool, as our great turnout at Reunion attests. The four-year winners of the Old Shoe trophy were struttin’ their stuff once again.

People came from far and wide. Lawrence Anga and his lovely wife were in from Nigeria. Larry Bates made the trek from Tokyo. Dana Allin came in from England, for his first-ever appearance at a Reunion.

Other first-time returnees included Houston-based Lauren Segal, with her husband Peter and daughter Claire, up from Houston, and Paul Peterson, who came from Kansas City.

Loads of locals made the scene, such as Lisa Weiss and her daughter Becca; Peggy Jackson Dannemann; Dot Levene Kelly and Tina Facos-Casolo, both up from Darien. John Auchincloss lives in Weston, where he’s gone in-house as an attorney.

Dr. David Schatz is on the medical faculty at Yale, and looks as youthful as ever. Fortunately, he retains his cheerful good nature, so one doesn’t hate him for looking so young.

From California came Janet Anderson Yang, her husband Tom Yang, and their two kids. Spence Steven was also dragged away from the Left Coast, to make a return appearance 10 years after his last visit to Yale. Cami Gerstel also came East from Oakland.

Those who occupied the top floor of Entryway E their senior year made a stellar return – Tom Waldron from Baltimore; Rich O’Brien leaving the world of Sports Illustrated; John Hoopes, in from Kansas with his wife Lauren Mattleman Hoopes and their delightful kids Nathaniel and Alexandra; Paul and Spence and Dana. After dinner, the gents gathered for cigars, and memories of shared ventures and adventures in days of yore.

Young-Joon Kim flew in all the way from Hong Kong, via New Hampshire, where his son is rowing crew at St. Paul’s.

Lucia Chapman may win the TD glamour award. With her flowing locks and her intense dedication to triathlon, our Manhattan attorney has kept the full flower of her youthful vigor – making all the rest of us look old and decrepit by comparison!

Another looker is Terry Young Trierweiler, whose entire family practices karate to stay in shape. She’s recently relocated from California to Greenwich, where she works for IBM.

Jeff Knishkowy was a stellar presence throughout the weekend, as the Whiffenpoofs entertained at every turn – at the Rotunda, at Saturday’s concert in Woolsey Hall, and, of course, their serenade at Saturday’s dinner on the Old Campus.

Tom Mampalam was there with his family; he and John Hoopes and Larry Bates reconvened freshman quad 1767, missing only the notorious Andreas Alrea, TD’s own mystery man.

All in all, TD made a superb showing. Ring the bell!
